Six players scored in double figures and Lawson State took control early as it coasted to a big 85-69 win over Bishop State Monday night at the Arthur Shores Fine Arts Building.
When
Omari Peek-Green (13 points) drained a 3-pointer less than five minutes into the contest, the Cougars (7-1, 2-0 ACCC) took the lead for good. A 15-5 run, punctuated by a
Markel Aune (12 points) breakaway layup, gave Lawson State a 35-17 advantage. The Wildcats (0-5, 0-2) closed to within 10 points with 4:40 left in the half but still trailed 45-29 at the break.
Things didn't get much better for Bishop State in the second half. A dunk by
Demetrius Davis (13 points) gave the Cougars a 55-33 lead less than four minutes into the second half. The Wildcats trailed by as many as 25 points over the final 20 minutes and never really threatened Lawson State the rest of the way.
Peyton Williams scored a team-high 14 points while
Isaiah Davis (11 points) and
D'Marcus Purcell (10 points) also scored in double figures for Lawson State.
